Bite Guards

A solution to prevent the affects of bruxism

Bruxism (teeth grinding) mainly occurs when sleeping but some people may do this consciously during the day. While the cause is not known, bruxism has been associated with stress, certain medications such as antidepressants, and certain conditions such as Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) or sleep apnea  .

A dental bite guard won’t take care of the problem’s root, but it will act as a barrier between top and bottom teeth to take care of symptoms such as damaged to teeth enamel, headaches, tooth pain, jaw pain, or disrupted sleep.
Our guards are made of a tough medical grade ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA). It is designed for a compromise between comfort and hardness for bruxism. We offer a variety of bite guards using different strength/thickness materials depending on the severity of the patients bruxism. The material is comfortable, flexible with a degree of rigidity and displays excellent energy absorbing properties which makes it ideal for night time wear.

Occlusal Splints

The purpose of occlusal splint therapy is to influence the lower jaw to function freely and without pain. Many situations can cause the malfunction of the lower jaw, such as: oral habits, naturally occurring malocclusion, trauma, orthodontics, clenching, bruxism and psychological stress.

Michigan and Tanner splints are used in the treatment of the TMJ and to control bruxism. These full coverage splints are constructed and invested in a clear acrylic material and made to any thickness you require. These splints provide balanced forces and remove any interferences to smooth jaw movement and is usually only worn at night.
The Michigan splint is constructed on the upper arch whilst the Tanner splint is constructed on the lower.
